OptiMed, based in Ettlingen/Germany, was founded in 1995. The company is engaged in the research and development, production and global distribution of medical products for minimal invasive therapy. OptiMed employs more than 100 people in its administration center and 2 production sites in Ettlingen near Karlsruhe.

OptiMed products are distributed in Germany by qualified medical product consultants, and internationally by a network of dealers with exclusive distribution of OptiMed products. OptiMed attaches importance to ongoing training of all sales and distribution representatives, ensuring customers receive optimum support.

International approvals and medical product marketing

Our company markets a portfolio of over 5000 products nationally and internationally in over 40 countries. Obtaining country-specific approvals for medical products is a process involving the knowledge, awareness, fulfilment and implementation of a wide array of standards, guidelines and official directives and laws.

Our staff has long-standing experience in the field of medical product approval, enabling us to meet both national and European requirements (CE certification) and international specifications.We have the speed and expertise to launch new products rapidly – benefiting our company and our customers.

Processing nitinol and plastic tubing materials

As manufacturers of many of the products mentioned, we have acquired and developed extensive processing knowledge and skills for a variety of materials.

One of the main points is the processing of nitinol, a metal alloy made from nickel and titanium with the special feature of "shape memory". Nitinol is the material of choice for our entire stent program. The self-expanding nitinol stent responds to body temperature, adopting its "pre-programmed" shape. A "sine structure" gives the stent exceptional flexibility and radial force. Areas of application include blood vessels, the biliary duct or oesophagus.

In addition to processing nitinol, we are specialists in processing a variety of tubing materials, particularly PTFE, polyurethane and polyethylene, primarily used for products including delivery system for our stent systems, ureteral stents and drainages.
